Nestled nicely in a queen-sized hotel bed, sans bedbugs and BravoTV, the Hilton Garden Inn in Birmingham, AL is what I'm calling home tonight. I took the 7 AM flight down here to meet with some customers at Coca-Cola United Birmingham, a.k.a. a Coke plant. Landing without incident, I stepped off the plane into another hot, wet fart. *When I left for O'Hare (at 5:30 AM please note) the temperature gauge in Lurleen the Subaru read "84." That's right. 84 frickin' degrees before the sun came up. This is when I'd like to turn on some Air Supply and go into a monologue about how badly I feel for homeless baby puppies and dogs.
To Roll Tide folks, sticky and humid weather is normal territory for mid-July. In fact, 90 and humid is the standard for the entire season of summer in Alabama. I don't know how southern chics do it down here; perfect hair and makeup with no sweat piling around their ankles. I, on the other hand, walked 20 paces to Starbucks and was sweating like a whore in church.
Despite the early wake up call and fatigue that has yet to lift, I managed to have a successful lunch meeting. I had nothing scheduled afterwards, so I figured the mall would be an ideal place to soak in some A/C. I've been on the lookout for killer wedding shoes and accessories; combing every place possible, I am almost positive that the perfect earrings and shoes don't exist. It's like one of those situations when you KNOW what you're looking for, you just can't seem to find it. Dammit.
Two malls later I was spent. Although, I did find a FABULOUS accessory store called Accessory City. Holy shit. This was the mother load for all you jewelry, sunglasses, purse and chochkie whores. I walked away with a super cheap (both meanings) fleur-de-lis bracelet. Any joint like this in the Midwest would be called a swap meet, minus the Mexican saint candles and used car speakers.
Speaking of swap meets, I stopped in Sephora today. While going from one end of the mall to the other, I picked up a strong odor of stank. Oh.... must be Sephora. Let's go in. I was just there the other day with Calli (while in Baltimore) and since I'm obsessed with all things travel sized, it made sense to cruise around.
Can someone please tell me how some perfumes remain popular:
1. Pink Sugar
2. cK One
3. Red Door
4. Any and all things Paris Hilton and Britney Spears
5. Samsara by Guerlain
If the saleschic begins to describe a certain perfume as "cotton candy, coconut and powdery" YOU NEED TO RUN, not walk, the other way.
